Make sure that you make most of your turkey, including all the bits of meat left over on the bones. You can not only make a nice stock to use for cooking, but also hundreds of training treats and frozen stuffing for your dog.
You will need: Cooked turkey carcass (with some meat left on it), rice flour and eggs.
1. Training treats
Boil turkey carcass (discard the skin and any parts that may contain lots of salt, spices and herbs as these may be harmful for your dog).
Clean meat off the bones.
Keep soft cartilages as they can be used as a special, high value crunchy reward. Make sure there are no bones in there.
Mince the meat using food processor.
Add 1-2 eggs, rice flour and some turkey stock to get the consistency between muffin and pancake batter.
Add a couple of table spoons of vegetable oil to the mix, evenly spread the batter over hot frying pan and cook like pancakes on both sides.
Cool cooked pancakes down and cut them into training treats.
2. Frozen treats for stuffing Kong™ toys
While you can keep the turkey stock for your own use it can also make perfect frozen plugs for Kong™ toys. They can be kept in the freezer until you need them.
Here I’ve frozen cooked stock with turkey giblets and carrots but any plain meat/poultry/fish stock will work as well.
You can reuse the plastic packaging from products such as meatballs as mould to create frozen plugs which are the perfect size to fit into a Kong™ toy.
