Child Adoption & Fostering Dog Behaviour Assessments

Welcoming a child into your home through adoption or fostering is an exciting and life-changing time. If you already share your life with a dog, it’s important to ensure their needs – and their behaviour around children – are carefully considered.

As an ABTC Registered Clinical Animal Behaviourist, I provide formal behaviour assessments for families who are going through the adoption or fostering process, whether through the local authority or a private agency.

These assessments not only meet formal requirements but also give you invaluable advice and practical support to help ensure the transition is safe and positive for everyone.

What to Expect

  • A 2-hour visit
  • Observation of your dog and discussion with family members involved in your dog’s care
  • Review of lifestyle, behaviour history, training, health, and social exposure
  • Guidance on safety and management strategies if needed
  • A detailed written report, including:
    • Owners' experience and relationship with the dog
    • Temperament and behaviour in various situations
    • Assessment of potential risks, particularly to children with emotional or behavioural needs
    • Practical advice on introductions, home setup, and safety measures

Your full written report will be emailed within 5 working days of the visit.

Fees

£470 for one dog.
Please enquire for assessments involving more than one dog in the same household.
